Self-employed means not working?

So I am self employed through the sole owner of three companies, and a 98% owner of a 4th company.  I work Monday through Friday 0600 to 1800 hours and Saturday from 1200 to 1600 hours.  And I could work more if I had the time and no family or dog!  I do try to take Sunday off.

But I have acquaintances and others think that I don’t work and have all the free time in the world to do things for them.  At not cost to them, and often cost to me in gas/car maintenance, and sometimes significant time cost.   I get asked if I am busy.  They know I am the owner of 4 active companies, all of which require my time and effort to make them work.  And I charge a lot of money per hour to the company when I work for that company!

So if you are self employed you can take off all the time you want to do things for them, at cost to you (aside from the missed billable hours to the companies) often?

I don’t get it.  It is a job, and often requires more time than if you were working for someone else.  In fact, not often, but almost 100% guaranteed that you will be working time if self-employed than if you were working for someone else’s company, and often won’t get paid for some of that time as well.

Yes, Monday through Saturday, during normal weekday hours, and that includes Saturday as I cut grass in the morning before I get to work (yes, work is in my upstairs office, but when I’m there, I’m working!!), I am BUSY!!
